I am sitting in the Sydney airport after spending what has to be the hottest weekend ever in Melbourne. This weekend I have been glued to the news watching the bushfires escalate in Victoria. With over 25 people now confirmed dead and many more missing, this could turn out to be one of the worst bushfire seasons in a very long time.
I have to say I’m also frustrated that www.news.com.au is not keeping me up to date quickly enough (I have family and friends in Victoria who I’m concerned about)… So I’ve turned to what is fast becoming my major news source http://search.twitter.com.
The bushfires are currently one of the most talked about topics on twitter and I am able to get up to date, from the ground reports on the bushfires. Is this the big breakthrough twitter needed in Australia?
