Why Do Search Engine Optimisation

24 February, 2009

The concept of Search Engine Optimisation is a simple concept. You simply follow a set of guidelines to rank your website high on search engines like google, yahoo and msn live. But why would you want to rank high on search engines?

Here are my top 3 reasons for having Search Engine Optimisation as a core asset in my internet businesses:

1.    Targeted Traffic – Search Engine Optimisation allows you to choose the keyword you are ranking for, which means you can ensure that the traffic is targeted. For example, if someone types “Buy Real Estate Sydney” into the search engines this shows that the person wants to buy real estate in Sydney. If your website is selling real estate in Sydney, the person typing in this keyword is a targeted customer. As an internet business owner I am more interested in targeted traffic then I am in high traffic volume.

2.    Asset Building – One of the key assets of an internet business is its consolidated rankings on the search engines. In fact, when buying and selling websites the sale price of a site can be directly affected by search engine rankings.

3.    Build Trust – Google is a trusted website and traditionally if someone sees your website ranking high on google for a key term, they believe that google is recommending your site to them. This recommendation can take what was already a targeted visitors and make them a qualified buyer. One of the key factors to online sales is trust, so a search engine ranking can help you build the required trust.

2 November, 2008

It was a great teleclass with Sean Rasmussen last Thursday night, during the call Sean was talking about how he was able to write a simple blog post about an Aussie Politician joining Twitter (which was slightly controversial) and in a few days was ranking number 1 in google on the keyword Aussie Politician.

If you are interested in Search Engine Optimisation it would be good for you to head over to the page that Sean put up and analyse some of the techniques that he used.  Just click on the link below to see the page:
